Hidden Indigo is built by a small team of three. We bring different strengths to the work, but share one purpose: to help Guizhou’s batik and Miao embroidery remain part of living culture—made by hand, worn in everyday life, and valued far beyond the mountains where they began.
Our Beginning
We were close enough to these traditions to mistake them for ordinary.
For us, Guizhou is more than a place on a map. It is the hush of mountain villages after rain, the deep blue of indigo cloth, and the quiet patience of a hand drawing wax lines one by one.
Growing up, batik and Miao embroidery were simply there—in village markets, family homes, festival clothing, and the texture of everyday memory. Only later did we understand that what felt familiar was also irreplaceable.
Behind every piece is more than technique. There is time, memory, judgment, and a way of seeing the world that no machine can reproduce.
What once felt ordinary became something we felt responsible to carry forward.
Why We Began
A tradition rarely disappears all at once.
It fades quietly: when a maker grows older, when a pattern is not passed on, or when slow work can no longer support the person who holds the knowledge.
Many batik and embroidery artisans have spent a lifetime refining what their hands know. Yet fewer young people are able to choose the same path. The future of the craft depends not only on admiration, but on whether it can still have a meaningful place in people’s lives.
Hidden Indigo began not to freeze tradition in the past, but to help it continue in the present—through pieces that can be worn, lived with, and loved today.

We are not a large design house. We are a close team of three, building Hidden Indigo together from Guiyang. Between us, every decision stays personal—from the first conversation about a piece to the moment it leaves our studio.
